What is the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

This program commenced on 1 January 2014 and acted as a replacement for the Teen Scheme dental voucher system. This system entitles your child to a $1000 dental benefit to be used over a 2-year period.

    What do you receive?

Designed with the aim to provide children with access to regular dental check-ups and general dental procedures, this scheme entitles your child to:

    • Dental check-up every 6 months
    • Any required X-rays
    • Full oral hygiene (cleaning) treatment
    • Fissure sealants
    • Deciduous tooth extractions
    • Fillings
    • Partial dentures

    Eligibility for CDBS

Eligibility for CDBS involves a means test, which requires:

    • Receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or
    • Relevant Australian Government payment

If you are unsure whether your child is eligible, please call Human Services directly on 132 011.

In order to better support the CDBS scheme, we bulk-bill for all treatment covered by the Medicare schedule. This means that a gap payment will only be payable if your child’s treatments exceed the specified $1000 allowance or if the treatment is not covered by the schedule. Our friendly team will always inform you if your treatment will incur a gap payment, however we strongly recommend that you check your available balance before your appointment.
